Basic Felling Operations Training

-
Course Description
Also known as Chainsaw Level 2, this course applies to individuals who are involved in arboriculture, forestry, agriculture, conservation and land management, local government, emergency services and other government agency operations, responsible for felling basic trees using a chainsaw. It will provide individuals with the skills and knowledge required that may be required to assess and manually fall small trees with a low level of complexity and to complete operator maintenance.
Basic trees are small to medium trees that can be safely and predictably felled using standard cutting techniques. They are sound, stable, and free from significant defects or excessive lean. Their size, structure, and surrounding site conditions allow the fall to be planned and controlled without complex cuts or mechanical assistance. Trees classified as basic trees may have some of the following characteristics:
- lean and distribution of the crown weight does not create a complex situation to assess, place the cut or fall
- no excessive lean
- no visible damage or defect
- uniform in structure
- species that are not prone to free splitting and adverse reactions during felling
- single stem or non-complex multi-stems
- small or medium diameter that can be safely felled using standard and basic felling techniques
- site characteristics that do not add significant complexity to the operation
This unit of competency stands alone and incorporates the content of the following units:
FWPCOT2275 Fell trees manually (basic)
