Outcome

Before you enrol
Entry Requirements
An individual undertaking this course with NNZMC Pty Ltd, trading as Industry Skills Solutions, will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:
- Participants must be 16 years and over
- ID is required
- A Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. This is required prior to enrolments being processed. To obtain a USI number, please go to www.usi.gov.au to register.
- Participants must have the physical capability to perform the practical assessment requirements. This includes performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor and CPR on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface, including compressions and rescue breaths.
- Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies. Attendees must have completed their own online pre-course work (if applicable) prior to attending the face-to-face training day. If any applicant has not completed the online pre-course work, they will be unable to attend the session. This may incur further charges or cancellation fees.
- Language, literacy and numeracy requirements - students must be able to read and correctly interpret required documentation relevant to first aid, speak clearly and unambiguously in English, and explain, describe and verify sometimes complex needs and issues. Writing is required to the level of completing workplace forms and producing any required reports.
- Digital skills: students need basic digital skills to enrol and to complete any online learning, including using a computer, tablet or smartphone, a web browser and email.
- Language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) assessment: every student completes an LLND assessment with Industry Skills Solutions before enrolment is confirmed, to check the course is suitable and to identify any support needed. A completed LLND assessment is valid for 12 months; returning students complete a new one after 12 months.
Reasonable adjustment may be available where appropriate; however, adjustments cannot remove or alter the essential practical assessment requirements of the unit. Please contact us before enrolment if you have concerns about your ability to complete the practical activities.

Course Description
With instruction and practical training in line with legal, workplace and community considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies, this first aid course teaches the skills and knowledge to recognise emergencies and provide immediate and effective first aid treatment to any person suffering a sudden illness or injury.
The course covers assessing the casualty, providing safety, accessing emergency services, and using resources to provide first aid, such as providing CPR and using a defibrillator, administering an autoinjector for anaphylaxis, administering asthma medication, assisting someone choking, using appropriate immobilisation techniques for envenomation, fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains, managing casualties with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock.
You will learn basic anatomy, physiology and the differences between adults, children and infants relating to CPR, the importance of the chain of survival, written and verbal reporting of incident details, reviewing incidents to improve own skills and response times, to recognise psychological impacts, and seeking help as required.
First aid is to be provided in line with guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
