Outcome
Upon successful completion of the online course, students will be issued with a certificate of completion for silica awareness training. The certificate is issued by NNZMC Pty Ltd, trading as Industry Skills Solutions.

Entry Requirements
Participants must:
- Have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online studies.
- Language, literacy and numeracy requirements - students must be able to read and correctly interpret required documentation / training materials relevant to silica awareness. Additionally, the student will be required to type short answer responses and answer multiple choice questions.
- Digital skills: students need basic digital skills to enrol and to complete any online learning, including using a computer, tablet or smartphone, a web browser and email.
Enrolment is confirmed only once all entry requirements have been met.

Course Details
This 100% online silica awareness course is mapped to the SafeWork NSW content criteria for crystalline silica training and to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2025 (NSW), which commenced on 22 August 2025. Across 49 lessons in six sections it gives participants an overview of:
- What crystalline silica is, and the products and work that release it
- Health effects, including silicosis and other silica-related disease
- The law and your duties under the WHS Regulation 2025 (NSW)
- The workplace exposure standard for respirable crystalline silica, 0.05 mg/m³ over eight hours, and why it is not a safe level
- The consequences, hazards and risks to health due to exposure
- Safety Data Sheets
- Hierarchy of Controls and systems for prevention of exposure
- Respiratory protective equipment to AS/NZS 1715 and AS/NZS 1716, housekeeping, health monitoring and air monitoring
- The national engineered stone ban of 1 July 2024, and where legacy stone stands
- Risk assessments and hazard prevention
Written for construction, manufacturing and engineered stone, and for anyone in mining, tunnelling, quarrying or the trades who disturbs silica-containing material.
Covering the SafeWork NSW content criteria is not SafeWork NSW approval, endorsement or accreditation of the course, and none is claimed.
Whether the course meets a particular employer's training obligation depends on the work their workers do.
Assessment
This course is a non-accredited course.
Learning is checked by five knowledge checks — 43 questions in total, with feedback on every answer. Each knowledge check must be passed at 80% before the course continues, and retakes are unlimited.
